Vacation Eats + Our (Post-Baby) Trip to Savannah!

Vacation is so much sweeter now with full food freedom! Every time I go on vacation I'm reminded of just how grateful I am for the work I did (and the support I had from professionals) in my journey to healing my relationship with food. And this vacation was no different. Part of a fun vacation for me is getting to eat delicious food in a new place...exploring new to me restaurants and trying new things that are part of the area we travel to. So let's dive into some vacation eats! This past weekend my hubs and I went on a very short little vacation to Savannah, GA. We just went for one night, so we were only there for just over 24 hours, but with my parents watching Graham, our now 7-month-old, we were sure to make the most of it. We had it in our minds to do all the things we can't do with a baby anymore. Things like sleep in, and therefore stay up a little later, bike ride, go to a coffee shop and just read in peace (which was a favorite of ours before Graham), and go to dinner anytime after 5 pm. We did all of those things! And it was amazing. I was so ready to go back to my baby afterward, but what a sweet time it was to just spend time with Paul.We arrived in Savannah on Saturday around 11:30 and our room wasn't quite ready yet. We made a reservation at The Drayton Hotel which I highly recommend! It was started by someone from New York and I definitely felt those Brooklyn vibes I love and miss so much. There was a restaurant inside, St. Neo's, so we decided to start our trip with a little brunch. We weren't super hungry at this point yet...we'd just enjoyed snacking on some banana chips and gummy worms, my new favorite for road trips...so we ended up splitting the steak and eggs benedict. OMG, sooo good! It was an English muffin topped with grits (of course), steak, a poached egg, and hollandaise sauce. 10/10 recommend! After eating, we went to the coffee shop in the hotel and ordered coffee. I got a 1/2 caff cappuccino and we just sat in the lobby reading. The lobby was BEAUTIFUL. I'm still trying to figure out the style, but I think I would describe it as modern floral boho. All over the lobby were velvet chairs in deep turquoise, Fushia, and gold. Plants including what seemed like a dozen fiddle leaf fig trees also made it feel so luxurious and tropical/boho. We read...I'm currently reading a super good book called The Silent Patient that my book club is reading and I could hardly set it down from the start. Then our room was ready so we went upstairs and unpacked. We did a lot of relaxing and just not rushing on this trip and it was so nice! So we just sat on the amazing king-sized bed and kept reading and finished our coffee together.Later on in the afternoon we went out to walk around and do some window shopping. We went to Anthropology, H&M, Urban Outfitters, and Free People. I found some high-waisted shorts at H&M to take the place of some I have that are falling apart.Next, Paul surprised me with a couples massage! How fun, right? I've only ever had a massage when I was like 39 weeks pregnant so this was quite the treat. Again, so relaxing!Afterward, we headed back to the hotel and got ready for drinks and dinner. We went up to the rooftop and each ordered a drink. Paul got a beer and I got a delicious drink with tonic and lime and a basil simple syrup. We also ordered shrimp cocktail which I was really excited about. After drinks we went to dinner at Vic's on the River. Again, can't recommend this restaurant enough! We started with some biscuits and then split an appetizer of fried green tomatoes, french onion soup, and then the main course of pecan-crusted tilapia. This was one of those meals you wanted to consciously slow down even more just to savor every bite! After dinner we walked around a little bit along the river and then headed to the hotel. We did the fun, fancy thing and put bathrobes on and ordered room service. We split a slice of key lime pie and watched Toy Story 3 (the best thing we could find on TV).The next morning we took our time getting up, waking up around 8:30 (yes, that's big-time sleeping in these days) and then headed out to breakfast. We went to a little french cafe called Cafe M and ordered a macaroon each (for fun!) and then I got a ham, cheese, and egg sandwich on a croissant. After breakfast, we went back to the hotel, ordered coffee, read a little, and then checked out of our hotel. We put all of our stuff in our car but wanted to stay a little longer so we found a bike shop and rented bikes to ride around for just an hour. After biking we hit up The Seafood Shack for lunch which was apparently on Food Network and Travel Network and got their seafood cones with a side of hushpuppies, something else I'd been craving since we moved back South. If you're saying, wait "seafood cones?" let me explain. It was a waffle cone with coleslaw and fried calamari inside drizzled with a creamy and spicy sauce. AMAZING! I was hesitant but decided to try something new and definitely no regrets. After lunch, we hit the road. It was such a fun trip full of rest and good food! And again, just so grateful to feel confident enough around food to enjoy vacation in this way.
