Cast Iron Skillet Pizza

You guys HAVE to try making this Cast Iron Skillet Pizza! It's a staple for us each week because it's quick and simple and comes out tasting so delish! Not to mention all the minerals you get from cooking with cast iron. Let's get this pizza cooking started!

If you know me, you know that weekly, no joke every Sunday, we HAVE to have pizza! My hubs really is the one who demands it. But I definitely don't mind.We used to bake pizza on a regular pizza sheet, then upgraded to a pizza stone, and now are currently hooked on cooking it in the cast iron skillet. It creates a perfect crispy crust like the pizza up here in New York...which if you haven't tried NY city pizza, it's a MUST!

I also just wanted to cook with my cast iron skillet more. Some people get intimidated by cooking with cast iron. It has a bad rap of being difficult to clean and tough to cook with. But, since getting married and being given like 4 cast iron skillets, I figured that was people trying to tell us that there's something about them that we should explore.People are right! Cast iron, with proper care and use is actually quite easy to use. I love how sturdy the pan is, how evenly it cooks, and also that it provides a person their daily dose of iron!

Like I mentioned, pizza is something that Paul and I eat every week. There was a time when pizza was one of those foods that I had a difficult time eating intuitively. We'd always end up eating the whole pizza and I'd feel bad about it because I didn't stop when I was full and that last slice put me over the edge. I think a lot of this was when I was still trying to make peace with food, since pizza was a food that I would feel bad eating in the past. So, naturally, when I finally allowed myself full freedom with eating it, it was difficult to feel control with it.Going through this process is completely normal. When first allowing yourself freedom with all foods, you're going to find yourself over-eating sometimes. You're going to have foods that you get to an uncomfortable fullness with. The best thing to do in this time is to remember first, you're not going to feel this way forever. And second, give yourself a whole lotta grace to figure out what feels good.

Now, without further adieu, here's the best pizza you'll ever eat!

Cast Iron Skillet Pizza

Your favorite pizza dough recipe or store bought (I use Trader Joes Plain Pizza Dough)

Favorite tomato sauce

Mozzarella cheese

Favorite toppings

Cast iron skillet

Start by allowing your dough to come to room temperature so that it's more pliable and easier to work with. Then, grease your cast iron skillet with oil slightly. Place your dough in the pan and use your hands and fingers to cover the bottom of the pan. Next add your sauce. Top with favorite toppings. My go to is a fresh tomato basil margarita pizza. Top with shredded or grated mozzarella cheese. Cook on the stovetop for about 5 minutes or until the bottom becomes slightly crispy. Then move to the oven. Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes followed by broiling for 3-5 minutes until cheese is golden. Allow to cool for a minute, then using a spatula, lift the pizza up out of the cast iron skillet onto a cutting board and slice when ready to eat!

I know this is hardly a recipe, but just so you know, I don't always make everything homemade, and I would never expect anyone else to either. It's ok to use store bought ingredients and make a delicious and satisfying meal.

Happy pizza eating!
